BRIEF PROFILE OF THE ORGANISATION

Youth for Education and Health Foundation is a non governmental organization located in Northern Region of Ghana with its head office in Tamale metropolis and projects officers in Karaga/Gushegu and Nanumba South Districts and which activities involved water and sanitation civic and basic rights, Access health care, Primary Education, Empowerment of vulnerable and Excluded and vocational training for the youth.

The founding members of the organization have observed through the course of their profession pursuit, the low level of capacity for development planning and management especially economics groups and the sub-districts institution in the Northern Ghana.

The members also observe through research that development interventions over the years failed to address the basic and felt needs of women and children. The formation of the organization was necessitated by the increasing needs for capacity development and resource mobilization for sustainable development in the region to alleviate poverty, hunger and diseases and to reduce rural migration for the communities to the urban center for un-existing jobs.

THE MISSION OF THE ORGANISATION

The organization mission is to provide platform for deprived and disadvantages women and children in the Northern Ghana and to improve their access to Justices, Health, Education and vocational skills to this target groups.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The aims and objectives of the organisation shall be.

  • To promoter sustainable portable water and sanitation in the communities.
  • To affirm the need for effective protection and promotion of human rights of women and children including their right to bodily integrity and to highest standard of physical and mental and social being.
  • To educate women and children on good governance on the recognition of legal personhood, which allow individuals to make important decision affecting their life and communities as well.
  • To empower vulnerable and excluded through vocational training and materials aids to orphanages, disabled, deaf and blind.
  • To promote primary education programme aimed at women, children and junior youth.
  • To promote health service in disadvantages rural communities.

HIGHLIGHTS OF YEHF ACTIVITIES FROM 2003 –2005

The organisation was awarded a contract in 2003 on the theme the effect of gender equity in traditional society in Nanumba south District. The project was on research basis, which the organisation will report our finding to the Assembly. In the same year the Assembly also contracted to train three-area councils to prepared their development plans.

In 2004 Nanumba South District Assembly awarded us a contract due to our past year and operational experience again in the field offering partner organisation service. The contract was to animate, mobilized and sensitized (10) communities to own and manage the facility, take community-based hygiene and sanitation awareness and raise funds to meet their operation and maintenance.

In 2004 through the organisation own initiative to reduce poverty in the Tamale metropolis the organisation was awarded a one-year contract from Department of Cooperative from the Regional office. The organisation was to mobilized, sensitized, train and provides equipments and loans disbursement to the beneficiaries.

In 2005 also the organisation was selected from karaga/Gushegu District to be a focal organisation to track girl child education and inaugurate District Education Team for all as a member of Northern Network for Education and Development (NNED).

In 2005 the organisation won a project from Tamale District Assembly and Ghana AIDS Commission to advocate for behavior change communication which include, social drama, video documentary show, radio messages, advocacy fora, community-wide for a, visual posters. This project was supervisor and monitored by the District Assembly.

EXECUTIVE BODY

The board of the organisation is constituted with a member ship of seven (7) three (3) male and four (4) female. Member of the board are professionals and very experience individuals with background in community development, Education, Health and financial management.

The executive board holds regular meetings during which it will approve project and programmers and innovative outlined system for the smooth operations of the organisation. In some meeting some staff will redesigned to occupy some various positions in other project in the District.

At regular intervals, projects were evaluated by some board members and deficiencies corrected. The board received progress report on projects portfolio that places analysis of performances and reports on supervision.

The board at its quarterly session took note of the status of the organisation financial status and advice’s on innovative ways of replenishment. It also acts on the returns and endorsed all audited reports.

PARTNERSHIPS NGO’S AND CIVIL SOCIETY

Over the years 2003, HELVO had collaborated and created partnership with other NGO’s, District Assembly, Government organisation and civil society organisation in various endeavors. The organisation already partners to the Northern Network for Education and Development, Northern Network for Development and NGO’s coalition on the Rights of Child
